PLATFORM: “Breaking the Silence Around Domestic Violence
It is a well known fact that Domestic Violence is a cycle that begins in childhood. Domestic violence is often passed down through generations of families, but can impact all of us through our relationships with other people. Megan has presented her program “Expect Respect” to thousands of individuals at high schools, middle schools and at civic organizations throughout Kansas, Texas and Wisconsin. A trained volunteer at Harbor House, Megan helped raise over $6,000 for this organization. Through volunteer efforts with Delta, Delta, Delta, over the past two years, she has raised nearly $10,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. THE MISS AMERICA ORGANIZATION is the world’s largest scholarship program for young women and one of the nation’s leading achievement programs. The Miss America Organization makes available more than $45 million in cash scholarships annually at the national, state, and local levels. Scholarships are available for academic achievement, community service, talent, fitness, and more.
THE MISS KANSAS ORGANIZATION is a state franchise of the Miss America program and operates local pageants throughout the state of Kansas from August through March annually. A directory listing of local pageants is available through the website, www.misskansas.org.
CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY: Women who are single, have never been married, and who are residents of Kansas between the ages of 17 and 24, are eligible to compete in the Miss Kansas program.
THE MISS TEEN KANSAS PROGRAM is a project of the Miss Kansas Organization and provides opportunity for girls ages 13 - 17 to develop leadership, communication and community service skills, and also compete annually in the Miss Teen Kansas Pageant. An application form for the Teen program is available through the website, www.misskansas.org.
