Carissa Kelley - Miss Kansas 2011
Carissa Kelley became Miss Kansas 2011 on June 11 in Pratt, Kansas. She is the daughter of Michael and Dawn Kelley of Winfield. Carissa is a graduate of Cowley County Community College and her scholastic goal is to pursue her bachelor’s degree in nutrition. As Miss Kansas 2011, Carissa will travel the state and share her message of “No Kid Hungry”. She is passionate about sharing her message with everyone she comes into contact with during her year of service. She would like them to join her in the fight to help fight against world hunger. Carissa will be representing Kansas at the 2012 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas January 14, 2012 Live on ABC.
Miss Kansas Program: A state
preliminary to Miss America, sponsors the Miss Kansas, Miss Kansas’ Outstanding Teen and Sunflower Princess programs and is operated exclusively by volunteers. The Sunflower Princess program is a non-competition mentoring program for girls ages 5 to 12. The teen program is a “little sister” to Miss Kansas for girls ages 13 to 16. Annually, scholarship awards of over $50,000 are made available at the state and local level. In 2010, over $3,280,000 in-kind scholarship awards were made available to contestants. The state competitions are held annually each June in Pratt.
Miss America Program: The Miss America Organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. The Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit organization that has maintained a tradition for many decades of empowering young women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence.
The Children’s Miracle Network Hospital: CMNH is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America. Each year the 170 CMNH hospitals provide the finest medical care, life-saving research, and preventative education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind. CMNH is the national platform for Miss America.
